West Kirby Arts Centre
West Kirby Arts Centre, The Old Unitarian Church, 29 Brookfield Gardens, CH48 4EL West Kirby
West Kirby Arts Centre hosts John Jenkins and The James Street Band for one night only on the 24th of March for a Saturday evening featuring original country, folk and Americana music from the Liverpool born singer songwriter.
John Jenkins previously played with bands including The Persuaders & Come in Tokio and has supported the likes of Elvis Costello, The Beat and Liverpool band Echo and The Bunnymen, appearing on a half dozen BBC Radio 1 sessions back in the day including three sessions for the legendary John Peel.
For 20 years, Jenkins left the music industry but still had the urge to play and in late 2014, he returned to the front line when he won an award at the Liverpool Acoustic Songwriter's Challenge. Since then, he's not looked back, releasing several singles and a debut solo album “Trains” to favourable reviews in late 2016. His new solo album “Window Shopping in Nashville” (a 21 track Double CD) was released in September 2017 and features songs laden with memorable hooks, pithy couplets and brilliant musicianship.
Top session players — Jon Lawton (Guitars, Production), Scott Poley (Pedal Steel, Dobro, Banjo), Chris Howard (Keyboards) and Scott Whitley (Bass), Megan-Louise, Camilla Alice Sky, Vanessa Murray (backing vocals) have all contributed their talents and Jenkins has crafted an album of finely polished gems.
The West Kirby Arts Centre supports live music and is becoming known as a venue for blues, country, folk and Americans. Doors to the centre will open at 7pm with a licensed bar available throughout the evening.
Tickets are £6. Saturday 24 March 2018 7 -10pm
