This September we’re inviting you to join us on an exploration into our native bats and their habitat.
Bats are one of the most popular and easily recognisable small mammals in Britain. Here at Knowsley, our vast land space and dense woodland areas offer these amazing creatures a fantastic natural habitat. Despite being so commonly included in pop culture, many people don’t realise the importance of UK bats, which are considered an ‘indicator species’. This means, when their population drop, it’s a sure sign that there is something harmful going on in the environment that is affecting biodiversity, and may ultimately have a negative outcome for people too!
What you’ll be doing
Arrive at the safari for 7pm. From here we’ll tell you a little about what we might see on this adventure and help you understand why our native bats are so important and just how you’re helping by coming on this event. You’ll then move on into the woodland for a guided walk to investigate the wild bat colonies that call Knowsley Safari home. During this exploration you’ll help us monitor our local bat colonies in the wild, learn about this amazing creature in their natural habitat and experience the safari after sun goes down.
